CHANGING ROLE OF INDIA IN WORLD POLITICS
India is a subcontinent which
consists of different colors in terms of its geographical, social, economical
and cultural conditions. Despite all these diversities, India is united which
is a matter of surprise for the whole world and at the same time is the matter
of proud for us. The accommodation of different religions, languages, castes,
traditions, beliefs and ideas on a single land is commendable, indeed.
Since its golden- ancient
history, India has remained the leader in fulfilling its responsibilities for
the whole world. Many of our world renowned personalities from Chandragupta,
Ashoka, Akbar, to the author of Arthashastra- Kautilya, Vivekananda, Rabindranath
Tagore, Mahatama Gandhi and Pundit Nehru have guided the entire world with
their intellectual treasure on various significant world issues.
India is the best model to
promote the lesson of peace despite the internal and external turmoil, which
reflects it as a laboratory of research for the discourse on world politics. It
has always adopted very practical and utilitarian approaches to tackle
different international issues in an effective manner. That is why, our principle to serve humanity
with truth and non violence with are universally acceptable
We have plethora of examples when India has acted very
maturely in the world politics. For instance,
just after the independence India decided to become the founder member
of Non Aligned Movement (NAM). Later
it supported Bangladesh freedom movement during Indira Gandhi’s regime. India, very strategically, maintained its
neutral stand during the Cold War Era, without inclining at any bloc i.e.
either USA OR USSR.
In the contemporary scenario, India is on the center stage;
acting maturely and constructively on the global political issues. India is
consistent on its policy to talk in harmony; not in pressure. That is why
almost all five permanent members of the UN Security Council are ready to
support India’s demand for its permanent seat. India has also become successful to garner
support for International Yoga Day in UN General Assembly.
Although India has many issues with its neighboring
countries, attempts to solve these issues through dialogues are in India’s
priority. It can be analyzed through its foreign policy with Pakistan. Terrorism is a big problem for
both the countries but the attitude of Pakistan on outsourcing terrorism is
abominable. Even then India believes in talk with Pakistan is greatly
plausible.
For Nepal, India
has always extended its support to establish democratic regime and political
peace. PM Modi’s visit to Nepal assures India’s creative role in future for the
Himalayan nation. With Bhutan, India has strong and close relations, which are
also the need of hour, to lessen the impact of china in the region and to
arrange power supply for India.
Bangladesh and
India have many issues which should be resolved. These include: cross-border
terrorism, illegal migration, water as well as territorial disputes and some
other problems which need disposition urgently. From the new government in
India we can hope for the concrete and successful result on all the issues, as
it will reduce the tension at least from the eastern border of the country.
As far as Sri Lanka
is concerned, the rights of Srilankan- Tamils and the matter of coastal
infiltration by fishermen from both sides are the issues which are on the table
to be solved. The new governments in both the countries are also interested to
create healthy socio-political and economic relations. The visit of PM Modi to
Srilanka and President Srisena to India highlights the determination of both to
look forward for development.
India has been able to project its image as an important member
of South Asian Association for Regional Corporation (SAARC). Its step to introduce SAARC satellite for weather
predictions and agriculture improvement is appreciable. Last year, India got
strategic success in carrying forward the issue of terrorism at SAARC
conference in the host capital- Kathmandu, Nepal.
Among the BRICS
nation, India is the major partner, leading as the first chairperson of BRICS
Bank at China. Russia has always been
the strategic-trading partner of India, the global sanction on Russia has not
affected our stand on Russia. It suggests our strong bond with Russia. With China, India still need very effective
strategy to resolve the border issue at large and the Brahmaputra river water
un-hurdle water availability issue at the same time.
European Union is
one of the biggest trading partners of India and we need to increase our export
with EU. The challenges of climate change, technology transfer and immigration
facilities for Indians are the major concerns which both sides want to clear. The
issue of Italian mariners has been handled carelessly which has created a rift
between EU and India. It needs proper strategy and attention to be resolved.
Australia has
become a prominent partner of India in the field of nuclear technology and
multilateral trade. Tony Abbot’s government has opened its arms to welcome
India for its software technology and cultural heritage. Abe’s government in Japan
has also decided to invest millions of dollars in India, seeing the potential
in Indian markets. The dream of bullet trains and smart cities can be fulfilled
through Japan’s help.
ASEAN countries
are on India’s priority as it will strengthen its position in the south-pacific
ocean which can limit the china’s policy of expansion. The shift from LOOK EAST to ACT EAST policy of India is very significant in terms that it
will enhance its trading relations with the south east nations as these are the
markets with great opportunities.
USA, being the super power, is very important nation to have
strong foreign relations with India. In the recent time America has come close
to India with its commitment to help India in sharing intelligence inputs on
terrorism, new scientific technologies and modest visa norms. USA’s stand to
contribute in India’s growth is a good sign for us.
India has now become a global leader to share and put
forward its views, policies and concerns very strongly. At G-20 summit in
Australia, India successfully garnered the support to plan policy on black
money; including transparency and modernization in tax rules. Its concern over
food security was also taken care and included as area of discourse at G-20.
INDIA is at the point where it has the largest youth
population: which is its workforce. The whole world is looking towards India
for its support on the human capital utilization in all the fields of work.
India is a big investment market with huge population. We need to create the
conducive atmosphere to use all favorable opportunities in making India strong
and powerful globally.
The new government in
full majority, that has become possible after 30 years, need to be very
responsible on every issue which is related to the India’s image at the global
level. This is the time when India can lead the world with its infinite
potential on every development which is relevant for the world for positive
growth and progress.
India can lead the world towards peaceful, non-violent and
inclusive development path as it is its history to teach the world on every
issue. Nalanda as an international institution is the example that how India
since its past has been enlightening the whole world on the mater of the
spiritual and material benefits for human civilization.
